The Community
December 2006 saw the village spring to life with the first residents moving
into their luxury apartments in both Maple and Maes Courts. To date 179
apartments have been sold or reserved with a 220 people now living in their new
homes.
Although many are from Sussex numerous have moved from as far afield as
Northumberland and the West Country. Few have even come from such distant places
as Spain, India and the Bahamas. However they have wasted no time in creating a
genuine retirement community with many strong friendships having been forged.
An active Residents Association has organized a number of clubs and societies
for those interested, these include art club, local history, scrabble, book
clubs and friendly bridge club to name but a few. Residents have also arranged
outings to the theatre, the cinema, the ballet and the London Philharmonic
Orchestra.

The existing original concert hall, with its ornate ceiling, is being well
utilised for special occasions and communal gatherings such as plays, guest
speakers, film nights and concerts. In fact a number of charity concerts have
taken place including one with the classical pianist Mariko Tanaka.
During the day the hall is used for short mat bowls, line dancing and short
tennis all of which are well attended.
The games room with snooker and table tennis tables is being used on games
nights organised by the residents, and the therapy room is used by visiting
therapists from chiropractor and massage therapists to reflexology and
chiropodists. The therapists and hairdressing salon is by appointment through
the concierge.
The specialist gym equipment which adjusts to the user’s level is proving popular. Many residents have already had their induction and along with the opportunity to take country walks in the grounds some have stepped up their fitness regimes.
As St George's Park and the community continue to thrive the Village is becoming
more vibrant, friendly and caring and as more and more residents move into their
apartments it is proving to be much more than just a place to live. It is a
lifestyle choice, and one that for many will give them the best years of their
lives. |
